Is an upcoming Survival Horror game and the eighth installment in the Silent Hill series. Initially bearing the tentative title Silent Hill 8, the game was developed by Vatra Games and will be published by Konami Digital Entertainment for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in late 2011.
Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. is quoted saying: "In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we're working hard to build a next-generation horror game the fans truly deserve... This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror.
According to Konami, Silent Hill: Downpour's camera will remain primarily in a Third Person Perspective. The game will feature the "mind-bending" puzzles and "thought-provoking storyline" that launched the series into mainstream fame, and will provide a "deep psychological horror experience" with multiple side-quests depending on the player's in-game decisions and behavior. The Player will only be able to carry one weapon at a time and these weapons may break. Downpour will also include puzzle difficulty selections. Buildings featured in previous installments of the series, such as a hospital and a school, will be excluded. The element of water will be holding a prominent role, with torrential rain being featured.
Silent Hill: Downpour's plot follows player character Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner who is stranded in the Town of Silent Hill after the prison transport vehicle he is being transported with careens off a road. The game's events take place in the southeastern region of Silent Hill, which has never been explored in previous games in the series, and the plot will be unrelated to previous installments.
